This is a piano transcription from the 13th movement (and most famous) of the "The Carnival of the Animals", an orchestral suite composed by Camille Saint-Saëns. It was originally composed for solo cello accompanied by two pianos but has since been arranged to a variety of instruments. "The Swan" piece is inspired by the legend of the “swan song”: a popular Ancient Greek and Roman belief that the swans sing a most beautiful song just before death, after being silent for their entire life. And the melody certainly captures that feeling of beauty and longing.
