Sir Edward Elgar was an English composer known for his late 19th-century Romantic orchestral music. His works featured bold melodies and vibrant sounds that helped revive English music during that time. His style brought new interest to the orchestral genre with its strong tunes and colorful effects. One of Elgar’s most famous pieces is the "Enigma Variations," which is an orchestral work that gained great respect. Hans Richter, who conducted its first performance in 1899, played a key role in making Elgar well known as a leading composer in England. This piece helped establish his reputation. In 1904, Elgar was honored with a knighthood and became the first professor of music at the University of Birmingham. During World War I, he composed some patriotic music. When he passed away, he left several works unfinished, including a third symphony, a piano concerto, and an opera.
