Jean Louis Gobbaerts

Sep 28, 1835 - May 5, 1886

Belgium

Jean Louis Gobbaerts was a well-known Belgian pianist and composer during the Romantic era. He also worked as a piano teacher. During his lifetime, he gained recognition as a concert pianist and shared his love of music through teaching. Gobbaerts was very successful in his time. He published more than 1200 pieces for piano. When he released these works, he often used the pen name Streabbog. Sometimes he used different first names, such as Ludovic or Levi, instead of Louis. Today, Gobbaerts is not remembered as a concert pianist. Instead, he is mainly known for his compositions under the name Streabbog. His large body of piano music remains his main claim to fame. Throughout his career, Gobbaerts made a significant contribution to piano literature. Even though he is less famous now, his works continue to be appreciated by pianists and students who explore Romantic era music.
