Kalkbrenner's Opus 88, while written as an album of Preludes, also serves as a series of musical studies with each piece focusing on specific fundamental piano skills.
In this prelude, the emphasis is placed on refining the right-hand technique, with light fingers and a flexible wrist. The continuous utilization of broken chord figurations demands the hand to remain expansively open throughout, adding an extra layer of complexity to the challenge of sustaining a relaxed and light wrist.
