Burgmüller Op. 100 is a wonderful collection of small character studies. Each piece presents a consistent technical problem, which is often the main idea of the piece, while at the same time having a distinct and lovely musical appeal. This opus precedes his Op. 109. "Ave Maria" (the Latin name of the prayer Hail Mary) is a great exercise in the choral style, where the performer plays four parts, voicing the top notes and making the piano sound like a choir.
