This piece is one of Chaminade's earliest works, published when she was just 19 years old. It is dedicated to her teacher, a famous French composer and piano teacher at the time called Félix Le Couppey. The open position the right-hand stays in throughout the piece makes it hard to keep any tension accumulating in the thumb. This was precisely the intent and it is why this is such a great study for eveness of sound and fine control of the thumb.
