Scriabin's 5 Preludes Op. 16 showcase the early influence of Chopin and Liszt on the composer's work. These pieces, created during the formative years of Scriabin's career, reveal a debt to the musical styles of Chopin and Liszt. However, as Scriabin progressed toward 1900, he began to carve out a unique musical identity, eventually incorporating mysticism and innovative compositional methods.
The initial Prelude in the series, marked Andante, introduces a beautiful theme in a post-Romantic style that doesn't overtly reveal any specific influences. While exuding a lushness reminiscent of Rachmaninov, it is likely more coincidental than intentional, as the prelude maintains its own distinct character and flow.
