Paganini's famous Caprice no.24 in A minor is arguably one of the most famous tunes in classical music. Likely due to its simple harmonic progression and catchy melody, many composers such as Liszt, Brahms, and Rachmaninov wrote variations on it. Berkovich's set of variations on this tune is not as famous as some of the ones mentioned before, but it is the only one written for piano students and are quite pedagogical in nature. The first book has late beginner to early intermediate pianists in mind, while the second book is more challenging and targets late intermediate levels. These variations serve as excellent studies in fundamental skills, such as dexterity, clarity of sound, coordination between hands, etc.
