Sergey Rachmaninoff, sometimes spelled Rakhmaninov or Rachmaninov, was known as the last major figure in the Russian Romantic music style. He was also a leading piano player of his time. Rachmaninoff is especially remembered for his piano concertos and a piece called "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini," which is written for piano and orchestra. He was born into a family that loved music. Before he even graduated as a pianist in 1891, he had already composed the Prelude in C sharp minor, which became his most famous piece. His First Symphony did not go well during its first performance, but his Second Piano Concerto later became one of the most often played works of its kind. After the October Revolution in 1917, Rachmaninoff left Russia and never went back. His music and career were shaped by these early experiences and changes in his life, which influenced the way he is remembered today.
