The form of this piece combines a theme with variations and a rondo structure. The theme itself is not introduced until the end of the first variation, and subsequently, each new variation is followed by the theme. This creates a sense of discovery every time the theme is heard, allowing the music to flow naturally and the shifts in mood to be even more effective.
