The Écossaise, a Scottish contradance, was a popular genre typically heard in early 19th century European salons. The popularity of the form waned mid-century, overtaken by the waltz and polka. Chopin's Three Écossaises are not very well known but excellent pieces for those who have already played some of his Nocturnes and Waltzes. The first one in the set has the right hand jumping up and down, and it will help you develop reflexes, fast finger action, and coordination between right and left hand.
