Ginastera considered these pieces as the beginning of his second style period for his piano compositions and said that “all the melodies and rhythms in the Suite are Argentine; however, this material is used in a new, personal and imaginative way, as if inspired by a folklore dream.” This delicate movement is inspired by the "zamba" rhythm, an intimate dance originally from Peru. It features a simple and yet touching melody floating around a rich harmonic sequence filled with altered chords and surprising sounds.
