This piece is inspired by a poem by Uruguayan poet Julio Casal: I gaze at the star and think: a sharpener passing by with his blue cart and his shining wheel. I would be fine there as an astral sharpener. I would carry my wheel through the streets of the sky. I would cross through distant neighborhoods making my ocarina sound, nostalgic for the seas. The threads of music would get tangled in my saffron beard. The surprise of my mother when she saw me coming and, thinking me an ordinary sharpener, would bring me her old silver scissors. Those silver scissors would bring back memories of my kites and my paper boats. I would live an honest life, and with my knives, I would cut my bread day and night. With my golden craft, I would light up distant and dark horizons. And my hand would give freedom to the sleeping bee of steel. I gaze at the star and dream: a sharpener passing by with his blue cart and his shining wheel... I would be fine there, making my ocarina sound, nostalgic for the seas, as an astral sharpener.
