Boulanger never gave a name to these three little pieces, and they were never published during her lifetime. These miniatures were written while meeting with her sister Lili Boulanger in Rome in June of 1914. The artistic quality of these short pieces is astounding, exploring a wide range of sonorities and moods using minimal resources. The first piece alternates between an expressive first section and a more static and serious middle section. Sound control, specially in the left hand, is the main challenge in this piece.
