Prelude H 251

Fanny Mendelssohn

About this piece
In April 1829, Fanny Hensel faced a significant disruption as her brother Felix left for London. During this challenging period, she composed H239, reflecting the emotional impact of Felix's absence. Despite Felix's injury preventing his attendance at her October 1829 wedding to Wilhelm, Fanny created her own processional (H242) and, expecting her first child, composed H251 in March 1830. The premature birth of their son, Felix Ludwig Sebastian, defied expectations, becoming Fanny and Wilhelm's only surviving child. These compositions, including H239 and H251, capture the essence of Fanny's life during pivotal moments.
