About the composer
Joaquín Nin was the son of Joaquin Nin Tudó, a writer from Catalonia, and Àngela Castellanos Perdomo, who came from Camagüey, Cuba. He grew up with influences from both his Catalan and Cuban heritage. This background may have shaped his interest in music and culture as he developed his career.
Nin learned piano from Moritz Moszkowski and studied composition at the Schola Cantorum. He also taught at the Schola Cantorum between 1906 and 1908. During his career, he toured as a pianist and became known for composing and arranging popular music based on Spanish folk songs.
He was recognized for his contributions to the arts, becoming a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. Additionally, he received the French Legion of Honor. These honors reflected his standing in the world of music and culture during his lifetime.
