The first piece in this set explores legato and coordination between right and left arms, exercised when alternating hands while playing a single melodic line. One interesting feature of this music is the form of both themes. Each is made up of two parts: the first ending in the dominant (making it sound like a question) and the second ending in the tonic (making it sound like an answer).
