Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 20 in G major, Op. 49, No. 2, is a short sonata, published in 1805 (although the works were actually composed a decade earlier in 1795–96). The entire sonata is approximately eight minutes in length, split into two movements. Together with Sonata No. 19, it's referred to as the "Leichte Sonaten" (translates to "Easy Sonata") to be given to his friends and students. This first movement features a stately and bold theme. Both first and a more playful and lively second theme undergo only minimal development before recapitulating at the end, making for a simplified sonata form, with its main theme based heavily on a G major triad.
