Clementi's Sonatinas are great pieces to get started with the sonata form. They belong to the Classical period together with Diabelli and Kuhlau's examples. The "cantabile" character of the right hand is the most prominent aspect of this movement. The term is derived from the "bel canto" which aims to mimic the tenderness and shades of the human voice.
