Diabelli's Sonatinas are great pieces to get started with the sonata form. They belong to the Classical period together with Clementi and Kuhlau's examples. Within his Sonatinas, the slow movements had a clear "cantabile" characteristic, derived from the "bel canto" which aims to mimic the tenderness and shades of the human voice.
