This collection is inspired by characters from the popular Italian theatre tradition of Commedia dell' Arte, such as Columbine, Pantalon, Pierrot and Pierrette, etc. Much like Schumann's Scenes from Childhood, these pieces are not intended to be played necessarily by children, but rather they are inspired by them. "Secrets" showcases the composer's incredibly creative and original writing. The melody is found in the quarter notes, literally hidden inside the accompaniment notes.
