This is the earliest surviving piece by Perry, written when she was just 22 years old. It features very dense harmonies and long lines, with an emphasis on the descending 2nd (G to F) we hear on the melody right from the start. This motif is used almost obsessively throughout the entire piece, giving this short piece an extremely profound and serious character.
