About this piece
Villa-Lobos spent years traveling across Brazil, collecting and cataloging folk songs. This album is a collection of those melodies. The first piece is based on the well-known song O Cravo Brigou com a Rosa, transforming it into a beautifully structured miniature.
It begins with a lively introduction before presenting the folk tune as a gentle lullaby. The final section introduces a rhythmic challenge, where the left-hand pattern shifts the meter, making coordination with the right hand tricky. Mastering this requires careful counting and a strong sense of pulse.
