Hässler's Op. 38 is a pedagogic collection of 50 pieces that progresses around the circle of fifths through all the keys, starting with C major and A minor and working through the sharps and then the flats to end with F major and D minor.
The sparkling and lively character of this piece is typical of the Classical period, where elegance, simplicity, and clarity of form were the norm. This piece requires a light touch and balanced phrasing, along with very clear and crisp articulation.
