Sonatina Op.300

Louis Köhler

About the composer
Köhler, born in Braunschweig, was a notable figure in the musical world of his time. He studied piano in Vienna under prominent mentors and later pursued a career as a conductor, primarily in Marienburg and Elbing. Settling in Königsberg in 1847, he shifted his focus to piano teaching and music writing, mentoring notable pupils such as Adolf Jensen and Hermann Goetz. As a critic for Hartungsche Zeitung and a contributor to Signale für die musikalische Welt, his writings gained recognition from influential composers like Liszt and Wagner, and he advocated for the establishment of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Musikverein. In addition to his contributions to music criticism and education, Köhler was a composer himself, having created three operas, a ballet, and several books on musical theory. His legacy as a multifaceted musician and educator endures, marking him as a significant figure in the musical landscape of his era.
