This piece is part of the "5 Miniature Preludes and Fugues", an excellent set for beginners to learn the basic techniques about counterpoint. The third Miniature has a triple meter and the character of lively baroque dances. The fugue explores a technique called "stretto", where the theme is played by both voices at the same time but one measure apart.
