Originating from France, the bourrée is a lively dance characterized by its double time rhythm and quarter-bar anacrusis. Initially part of the Baroque dance repertoire, it later evolved into a ballet step known as pas de bourrée. Although it became an optional component in classical suites, composers such as Bach, Handel, and Chopin incorporated bourrées into their compositions, whether or not intended for actual dance performances.
