"Sheep may safely graze" is a soprano aria by J. S. Bach. The aria appears in Bach's secular cantata "Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd!" or, as it is usually referred to, the "Hunting Cantata" (also known as Birthday Cantata). The aria is sung by the character Pales, a goddess of crops, pastures, and livestock. The words in the aria say that: “Sheep may safely graze and pasture In a watchful Shepherd's sight. Those who rule with wisdom guiding Bring to hearts a peace abiding Bless a land with joy made bright.”
