Burgmüller Op. 109 is a wonderful collection of small character studies. Each piece presents a consistent technical problem, which is often the main idea of the piece, while at the same time having a distinct and lovely musical appeal. "Morning bell", as the title suggests, evokes the church's bells waking up the sleepy town on a Sunday morning. It has therefore a calm and peaceful character. Here the left-hand crosses repeatedly to stroke those high notes, with the clear intent of mimicking the high sounds of the bell.
