These pieces help your left-hand improve not only technical skills, such as dexterity and coordination but also musical ones, such as phrasing and shaping long musical lines. In the opening piece, Barcarole, the melody is mostly played in thirds. Such lines need good voicing, where the top notes are projected on top of the bottom ones. The main challenge here, however, is to maintain the long lines on the melody while reaching down to play the light accompaniment notes.
