Mélanie Bonis' Album for the Young is a wonderful collection with 20 pieces that range from elementary to early beginner levels. These are very imaginative character-pieces that also serve as little studies since each piece explores a specific technique. Hugs is a great study in balance between right and left-hands, as well as in long musical lines. The melody fluctuates over a steady accompaniment in triplets, which makes it challenging to avoid accents and a smooth melodic flow.
