Chopin's 24 Preludes, Op. 28, are a set of pieces for the piano, one in each of the twenty-four keys. Chopin wrote them in Majorca (Spanish island in the Mediterranean), where he spent the winter with George Sand and her children to escape the damp Paris weather. The 9th prelude in this set is a short but audacious piece in terms of character. It has a triumphant dotted rhythm on the melody, over a steady and solemn accompaniment pattern. The subtle difference between the regular dotted notes and the double dotted ones create just enough rhythmic variety to make this short piece captivating and powerful.
