1. Tristesse in Eb minor

Teresita Carreño

About the composer
Teresita Tagliapietra-Carreño was an American pianist and composer. She was the daughter of the well-known Venezuelan pianist and composer Teresa Carreño and the Italian tenor Giovanni Tagliapietra. Growing up in a respected musical family, she developed a career as a concert pianist. In addition to performing, she composed several short piano pieces in a late Romantic style. Among her surviving works is a set called 3 Morceaux, which includes Tristesse, Minuetto in stilo antico, and Petite berceuse. Of these, Petite berceuse and Minuetto in stilo antico remain particularly well known and are still used in teaching and performance. Minuetto in stilo antico has also been arranged for other instruments. Through her efforts as both a performer and composer, Tagliapietra-Carreño continued the musical legacy of one of the nineteenth century’s most notable musical families.
